For The Fallen

Posted by Dan on May 25, 2009

We pause our normal coverage today in honor of the men and women in uniform that have served and fallen in the service of our country.  I’ve always been disturbed by the concept of a “Happy Memorial Day”. It’s not a happy day. It’s a day where we should be reflective, pause, and look at the freedoms that we have, and question whether we are taking full advantage of them. Enjoy your barbecue and your beer, and whatever you do. But when you finish, take a moment to think about what is going on in the world. Actually scratch that, just think about what is going on in this country. Think about the politicians that want to control what you can or play. Think about the evangelists who want to impose their view of morality upon you. What have you done today to stand up for your rights? When was the last time you read the Constitution?

This Memorial Day, that’s all I ask. Take a moment to reflect. Take a few minutes to read the Constitution and really think about the liberties the Framers were trying to protect. Think about this art form that we love, and how it fits into that vision.  And when you’re done, thank the troops who died upholding a sacred oath to defend that Constitution, and think about how you can honor their memories.
