What’s Going On With Microsoft Job Cuts?

Posted by Dan on January 21, 2009

First Kotaku speculates that Microsoft is looking into cutting buildings and future development rather than people and jobs. Then, Microsoft cuts the Gamerscore blog. Now Reuter’s analysts are expecting that Microsoft is going to cut 6000-8000 out of 95,000 jobs in that particular department. And that may not be all — McAdams Wright Ragen analyst Sid Parakh revealed that sources inside Microsoft are talking about ” a second round of cuts in some groups sometime later in the year”.

What the hell is going on at Microsoft eh?

  1. Joshua Auriemma Said,

It was interesting interviewing at Microsoft this past weekend knowing that all of this is up in the air. There was certainly no shortage of applicants being taxied around by the Prius Army, though.

The people that I spoke with there have absolutely no idea what’s going on. I interviewed with Office team, so they may be less worried about cuts. They did pitch to me that a bunch of new buildings were in development though, which is interesting if MS is seriously considering cutting back on construction. The reason it was noted was that Building 36 is *real* busy during lunchtime.

One of my friends working in another group mentioned that they were having some kind of “real close review” that he was a bit concerned about.

I’m definitely interested to see where this all goes.
