Dead Space banned most everywhere

Posted by Gwyddia on September 6, 2008

According to Kotaku, Dead Space will be banned in China, Germany and Japan. The last one comes as a bit of a surprise. While the game does feature extensive humanoid on humanoid violence, getting a ban in the country that brought us “Rule of Rose” and hundreds of sexually explicit games is a bit of a feat.

Note that by “banned”, Kotaku means that, at least in Germany and Japan the games have been given the equivalent of the ESRB’s ‘Adult’s Only’ appellation. Just as in the United States, these types of ratings constitute a constructive ban on a game, as most major retailers will not carry Adult Only games.

As always, we here at GamesLaw denounce censorship and encourage our readers within these countries and without to keep abreast of developments in this area.
